‘This is what love really is: not that we have loved God, but that God has loved us & sent His Son as a sacrifice to atone for our sins.’ (1 John 4, 10).
My song is love unknown, my Saviour’s love to me;
Love to the loveless shown, that they might lovely be.
O who am I, that for my sake my Lord should take Frail flesh, and die?
They rise and needs will have my dear Lord made away;
A murderer they save, The Prince of life they slay.
Yet cheerful He to suffering goes, that He His foes from thence might free.
In life, no house, no home my Lord on earth might have;
In death, no friendly tomb, but what a stranger gave.
What may I say? Heav’n was His home; but mine the tomb wherein He lay.
Here might I stay and sing, no story so divine;
Never was love, dear King, never was grief like Thine.
This is my Friend, in whose sweet praise I all my days could gladly spend
In the 2nd week of Lent, we think of the immediate situation confronting us all, the Global Pandemic, & its consequences…During this week, please pray…
- For all those who continue to suffer from Covid-19; especially those requiring intensive care in hospital. For their loved ones, waiting for news about them, & for the doctors and nurses caring for them…
- For those whose responsibility it is to decide how best to proceed with lifting the restrictions presently in place. For all who advise them; and for those whose task it is to enforce the rules fairly & sensibly…
- For school teachers, & ancillary staff, as they prepare to return on March 8th. For pupils and students. For parents. For all who will be anxious about the timing, the arrangements, the safety checks, the available protection…
- For those continuing to be affected financially; business owners, furloughed employees, benefits claimants, & the homeless, the destitute, rough sleepers, asylum seekers, those in quarantine…
‘This is my commandment: love one another as I have loved you.’ (John 15, 12)
